Multi Selection

Multi-selection of files and instruments allows for conversion of more than one file/instrument from the selected disk or CD at a time.
This simplifies conversion to a great extent, however you can only use multi-selection from one single disk, folder or Akai/Emu CD.
Multi-selection is only possible in the "Files" panel and the "Presets" panel.

This function is very useful with large GM banks and only works only with Soundfont or Giga formats containing multiple instruments or presets.

The button has a two modes. Depends from in which panel is active it is called:

It is possible to search for files in any directory, disk or CD. Nested directories will be scanned.

File Search is only active for the following Source Formats :
SoundFont, Giga, SampleTank, DLS, SampleFarm, Halion, Kontakt
audio sample formats: Wave, Aiff, Ogg Vorbis, Creamware Sample.

The results of a search action will be displayed in the "Files" panel.
on the selected directory or disk.
Select the format from the popup menu and ExSC will search for the files, showing the search results in alphabetical order in the "Files" panel.
During the search, the program waits for completion of the operation.
It can take some time with a large amount of files.
A long search operation may be canceled by pressing the key.

When selecting a file in the "Files" panel the full file path will be displayed in the status bar, so the file location is obvious.

Searching of Giga files with *.GIG extension: Searching of all source formats and supported source extensions:

Convert ... menu converts selected one audio file to WAVE or AIFF format.

Convert all ... menu converts all audio files to WAVE or AIFF format.

File Conversion

File Conversion is used to change one file format into another file format.
Also we can re-convert some formats.
NOTE: Remember to switch "Menu -> Destination Format" mode into used format conversion.

It can be done in several ways:
Important notes about audio samples overwriting:
When converted audio samples exists on disk in the same location you will see a Message Box where you can select a further action.

This can happen when we convert to AKAI S5k, S6k, Z4, Z8, Creamware, Kontakt, Sfz formats. These formats use external sample files used with main file.
[Yes] - It overwrites existed samples on disk (be carefully to not loose your old samples).

[No] - It saves only main file (samples are not copied, saved on disk).

[Cancel] - It cancels convert operation.

It is possible to convert one or multiple files, presets in a single Convert session.
Multi Selection methods allows to select more files.

Export and Edit samples

ExSC allows the fast export of a selected sample or all samples of a program/instrument to Wave or Aiff sound file format so these can be edited using an external Audio Editor like e.g. Sound Forge, WaveLab, Audacity, etc.
The path where to find the external Audio Editor can be defined in the Configuration -> Settings dialog.

NOTE: Remember to save files after their edit in Audio Editor.
When you come back to ExSC converter automatically re-reads samples from hard disk. If some changes were done these changes are shown directly in ExSC sample view.

To edit a single sound sample and automatically launch External Editor:
To edit all sound samples and automatically launch External Editor:
To export all sound samples: (you need to launch your own an Audio Editor and load the sample files manually) This option exports samples to specified directory instead of previous functions which place files in system temporary folder located usually in Documents and Settings.

Exported samples are marked with icon.

If you want to export/edit samples only from selected preset use "Selective Sample Viewing" methods like [S] mode, button must be switched ON.

Tools for the Samples

We can do some basic operations on samples:

Rename: To rename sample:

NOTE: Some formats have limitations to its name length.
SoundFont format allows for only 24 chars for sample's name. If you exceed it the last chars will be removed.
Find stereo samples:
This option is used to link mono left and right samples into one stereo.
Converter uses some comparisons to left and right samples to find the same parameters.
If this conditions are kept these samples are linked to stereo and treated like stereo sample in further operations.

Rename duplicate samples:
This option eliminates repeated names of samples by adding 01 .. 99, 001 .. 999 postfix or to its end name.

Clicking on button located in Loop View also restores original loop settings.

Preset, Layer, Zone Deleting

Sometimes we want to do some variations to converted patches or banks. This tool allows to do this operation.

Other main purpose is removing unwanted GIGA dimensions when we convert to formats who do not support dimensioned layers (SF2, DLS, SampleTank, DS-404, STS, AKP). We can decide which layers leave and which convert.

How to view and delete layers/dimensions
